Forgot to post some of my gear:

Guitars:

Pedals:

Amp:

I really need a new amp. It's crapping out and it doesn't really even sound all that good.

That metal distortion pedal sure is a must have for such a dedicated metalhead as yourself huh.

hah, yeah ex. My friend who "played guitar" bought it but when he realized he couldn't "play guitar" he sold it to me for real cheap. I use it sometimes when I need a lot of sustain/gain on solos. I fucked with the settings enough to make it sound really good. When we covered Another Brick In The Wall, I used this distortion exclusively. It just cut through a bit better than my Boss. My solo sounded like a heavier Gilmour and it was bueno.

I use my BD-2 for bluesy crunch (obviously) and my Turbo Tube Screamer for the heavier stuff.  The Big Muff is an old 80s reissue and the saturation sounds glorious.  I'm decent with a guitar, but I spend most of my time finding different sounds through feedback, distortion, and delay.  Very into the shoegaze.  I use my e-bow tons but refrained from posting a pic of it to avoid the predictable "lol tiny dildo" jokes.

That's my favourite pedal ever, it's a Musket Fuzz and it can do a hell of alot of different fuzz tones, i can get anything from a big muff to a vintage fuzz face from it, i use it mostly to get a dark and dreamy fuzz sound since I have ALOT of shoegaze in my sound with chords that live forever and reverbs that sounds like a black hole . This pedal will remain on my board forever.

Anyone else into boutique pedals or is it just me?

I personally don't really care for what genres pedals are "intended" to be played with. If you're gonna shape a sound per se, it requires a lot of experimentation and fucking around with sometimes.

Shit, i used to use a Boss BD-2 Blues Driver, it was labeled a "blues pedal" but it sounded fantastic with rock and metal alike, great warm tone and cutting distortion.

I generally tend to avoid "metal pedals" due to the fact that they often sound too "metal" resulting in what can be compared to recording your guitar underwater and then processing it through an answering machine.

But hey that's another thing, it might sound really shitty and grizzly, but you might use that to your advantage and "shape" your sound as mentioned above.

you guys are being like omg ma pedals so cool,
post a sound clip you faggots.

also vinny that jaguar is sexy, i really love the sound these guitars make too.

i was looking into getting one, i already have a mexican strat, my 1st real guitar ive been using since i started.

not mine but it looks somewhat like it,
as for pedals i'm pretty poor and i actually need to get a better amp 1st, i'll see what i wanna do about these bad boys after.

im thinking of getting a fender blues junior, ive been using one outside of my house for a while and i like the sound quite honestly, what do you guys think (i herd lamps can break pretty ez and are a pain in the ass to repair, but that should go fine long as i don't do retarded shit with em right?)

...and on occassion

The bass has a beautiful clean tone, absolutely perfect for jazz, really deep and mellow. Great for funk too because the action is perfect and it isn't so deep to the point that lower register just blends together, each note is pretty clear. The strings tie the whole thing together, absolutely perfect for playing harmonics.

There is a more scientific way of describing it, but basically "flanging" is what happens when two identical signal inputs are mixed and one is slightly delayed and the peaks and troughs of the sound wave are modified to create a sort of sweeping sound.  Great for filling spaces and when used effectively, can take the place of a decent synth if a guitarist is decent with chord inversions.  Also makes for a great 80s sci-fi vibe.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Flanging_effect.ogg

The sound clip plays three chords with a warm pad so you can hear the wave oscillations better.
  • The first chord is clean.
  • The second plays through a flanger at a moderate-brisk modulation rate.
  • The third plays a through a flanger at a slower modulation rate.

Hope that helps Comi!

Oh yeah yeah yeah, I've heard of that! Pedals are so cool, but I love hearing the actual science and mechanics behind them. On my bass pedal, I think my favorite effects would be wah wah and chorus...although I don't know what the chorus effect actually does (scientifically).

Hey guys, I know it's been mentioned on and off again, but what would you all think of a little collaborative effort? Maybe we could all lay down a few tracks and someone could Frankenstein a song out of them? Hell, maybe we could even write lyrics or a rap or something.

1. I think a collaborative effort is a good idea. If you need my guitar, I will help as best I can.

2. I play guitar and I produce some electronic music, though not so much on the production part these days. I have a Jackson JS3RR-whatchamacallit.

I'll play just about anything but I particularly enjoy metal and blues. I find them to be much more rooted in the sort of melody/fill/melody/fill progression that fits my style. I'm technically in a band? We play whatever we feel like and do it just for fun. We do covers and some writing and have played for crowds, but not for money. I need a new guitar. I'm not enjoying the trem on the Jackson. It makes anything but standard tunings pretty much impossible unless you want to destroy the guitar. I'm looking around for a fixed bridge at the moment and would actually appreciate some suggestions.
